Guinea Pigs

I like guinea pig because my aunt has one. Guinea pigs were found in South America. They were originally called cuy, but are known as cavy and guinea pig. People think the name comes from the money called a guinea. People also think the name comes from the place called New Guinea.

Guinea pigs come in many different sizes and colors. They also come in many styles of hair. They live four to five years. A guinea pig once lived for fourteen years. They have one to six babies. One had seventeen babies. Guinea pigs can become pregnant six to forty-eight hours after giving birth.

There are many interesting facts about guinea pigs. Peruvians consume an estimated sixty-five million guinea pigs each year! In Peruvian culture guinea pigs are so famous that there is a painting of Jesus and his disciples eating guinea pig meat. In South America people still eat guinea pig. When guinea pig is eaten it is served with corn beer. Everything I learned helps me know that guinea pigs were created by God

  2. Wow Ethan, I never knew that much about guinea pigs. What I do know about them I learned when I was about your age. We got 2 guinea pigs from the pet store, and thought we had 2 girls. We didn't, we had a boy and a girl and the girl had SIX babies. Then we found out I was allergic to them, so we had to find all of them a new home. Keep up the great writing! Love Grams. P.S. Happy Valentines Day, hope you got our package.

  3. I liked learning about the guinea pigs. When I was in college a friend of mine had a guinea pig. She loved it very much. She told me that she met others on the internet that loved their guinea pigs just as much. She said they have get togethers where other guinea pigs and their orners would meet and play. She drove from Columbus, OH all the way to Fort Wayne, IN for one of these get togethers!Sometimes they would even have costume contests where the owners would dress up their guinea pig. I bet that looked really silly. What would you dress your guinea pig up as?
Did you know that there are guinea pig shows where people bring guinea pigs from all different breeds to compete to see which one is the best specimen of that breed? I saw one once when I went to a rabbit show with a friend.
Thanks for writing all the information about guinea pigs. Great job. It was fun to learn more.--Love, Bobbi

  4. Hi, Ethan! Your blog is so fun! You taught me more about Davy Crockett and now about guinea pigs. Cathy's pig Wheat makes us laugh a lot; one of us thought he should try bungie jumping! I hope you can see her place soon and the nice table she bought for Wheat. Hope to see you soon - Love, Gramma P.S. Thanks for calling to tell me that Caleb is walking; now I have to see that!
