Trip to Washington State

We went to Washington state! We got on the train on October 20 and rode for 2 nights and a day. The train stopped the 22nd in Seattle and we got off. Daddy got the rental car while we stayed at the train station. We went to the Mt. St. Helens visitor center and hiked.

Then we left to go to our next hotel in Kelso. We stayed in Kelso for one night & the next day went to Ape Cave which is the lava tunnel at Mt. St. Helens. Ape Cave was formed during the first eruption 2,000 years ago. There is 2 tunnels but we took the easy one. It was really dark! We then went to Lava Canyon which was formed during the 2nd eruption in 1980. We hiked over a 200 foot gorge on a suspension bridge! It was really cool!

On the way to Ocean Shores Caleb got carsick & threw up in the middle of nowhere! After the throw up incident, we finally got to Ocean Shores. The beach was right outside our hotel window! In the morning we went down to the beach and played.

After that we left for Port Angeles. On the way we stopped at a lodge with a beach for lunch. We ate and then went down to the beach. The beach had a lot of logs on it. Somebody had even made a shelter out of some! After we left the lodge we went to the Hoh rainforest in Olympic Natl. Park & hiked. The trees where huge! Afterwards we finished driving to Port Angeles.

The next day we drove to Port Townsend and got on the ferry to Whidbey Island. We got to drive our car right on! We got off in Coupeville and drove back to the mainland. The ferry saved us 200 miles of driving! Afterwards we drove to Winthrop which is a western themed town.

The next day we went to Omak to meet a realtor to look at some land. On one piece there was an old homestead with a barn that was 100 years old. We also passed a old general store and a school. On Thursday Mommy, Caleb, and I stayed in Omak while Daddy, Elijah, and Jim (the realtor) went to look at some more land. Elijah found a deer antler!

That afternoon we left Omak to head back to Seattle. We stayed in Leavenworth which is a German themed town. On Friday we left to get on the train again. Our Washington trip is one I will never forget!

  1. Ethan, it sure was fun to read about your trip in your words. I remember riding the train when I was real little, and how it sounded in the night. I liked it a lot! I am thankful you all got home safe. Love, Gramma

  2. Son,
What a great entry and it sounds like you had an amazing trip. Bobbi and I really liked Seattle as well when we were there and we stayed on Whidbey Island when we were there with friends. We did not get to go to Mount St. Helens though as we did not have enough time while we were there.
You are becoming quite a good writer and I love reading your writing.
    Keep up the good work.

  3. It was great to hear more about your trip to Washington. The pictures showed a small picture of all the beauty you got to see. I am so glad you got to see more of the country.
We think about you everyday. It would be great to see you more often. I know Hope would really like to get to know her big brother.
    Love-Bobbi
